Ben Shahn

Hartford Update: I spoke with Murray today about the magazine cover assignment. I feel really drawn to Ben Shahn. Murray agrees he was an "emblematic and pivotal illustrator" who was "responsible for the new look of illustration that started in the 50's." I read through some great oral history interviews with him from 1964, 1965 and 1968 in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution. Fascinating. I ordered his "The Shape of Content", part of his Charles Elliot Norton Lectures at Harvard. Ready to dig in.
