Inspiration: Memory

I was inspired by a memory I had of visiting the Thaw Collection at The Fenimore Museum in Cooperstown, NY. I remember the dresses of American Indian women were stunning. This from their website:

"In 1995, the Fenimore Art Museum embarked upon a new era with the addition of a spectacular new American Indian Wing designed to house the extraordinary gift from Eugene and Clare Thaw of their collection of American Indian Art. The collection has continued to grow as new objects are added by the Thaws and other donors, and today numbers almost 850 objects. Each new object reaffirms the Thaws’ commitment to the beauty and artistry of American Indian art, and thus strengthens the philosophical foundation of the collection: that the aesthetic power of American Indian art is equivalent to that from any culture.

The collection is representative of a broad geographic range of North American Indian cultures including: Northwest Coast, Woodlands, Plains, Southwest, Arctic, California, and Great Basin regions.

The collection can be seen in changing galleries and in the Study Center, an open storage space. Since acquiring the Thaw collection, Fenimore Art Museum has reached new audiences by touring exhibitions, hosting symposiums, publishing new research, and collaborating with American Indian curators and specialists for Museum programs and exhibitions."

Day 3: Wacom Tablet Adventures

We continue with our digital explorations in the media lab with major digital artist/illustrators Nancy Stahl and Zina Saunders. We worked in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter 11 using wacom tablets. Lectures today included Wendell Minor and Dennis Nolan, two extraordinary artists/illustrators. The graduating class is working with Chris Spollen and Danny Pelavin on their marketing projects that will accompany their thesis paintings in the gallery and beyond. The new incoming class has been working on their 50 thumbnails and their dream assignments...and trying to catch up on their sleep and Carol Tinkelman keeps the whole ship moving,... always with a smile:)

Getting Gizmo

Here is the rodeo image after getting gizmo in PS. This digital dimension is a bit unnerving to me as as someone with a fine art background,..but I cannot seem to resist, nor do I think I should. The images are evolviing and that's what's important.

better inspiration

For Creative Quarterly 20 I had to submit an image of something, or someone that inspires me.

I've been working on a painted image of John Collier, but I wanted to send in something more graphic.

I did some revisions in my mind in the wee small hours and got up early to fix.

Back to work...

Experimenting with space

Experimenting with space...took the photo of the trees last winter and pasted down a recent line drawing and wash of dog... Then into PS for cutout effect. The photo ends but I inked in the tree trunks below the photo margin...
